Do you directly engage your support workers through
- direct employment
- contracting independent support workers, or
- a Service for One arrangement?
The Self Manager Hub is starting a small online peer support group, so you do not have to figure all this out on your own. Directly engaging support workers can be a great way to be in control of your supports, but it can also feel overwhelming. This group is your place to get practical help and support, share tips, experience, and knowledge, and learn from each other.
We will share ideas and problem-solve around:
- understanding your legal rights and responsibilities
- recruiting and keeping good workers
- making claims and dealing with payment reviews
- tricky conversations and sorting out problems early
- how to improve policy to make it easier to directly engage support workers.
- In the spirit of peer support, it would be up to the group members to decide what they want the group to focus on.
First meetup:
- Date: Wednesday 14 January, 8pm – 9pm Eastern Daylight Savings Time
- Format: Monthly online Zoom meetup
To maximise participation, the group is limited to 10 people. If you are interested, please complete a very short application form expressing your interest. People with disability and subscribers to our website will be prioritised. Respect for confidentiality and a commitment to support and kindness will be expected of all members of this peer support group.
